You either make disciples or you make competition.
Darwinism vs. Discipleship
The mindset of discipleship and the mindset of competition can not exist together. Discipleship isn't just doing a bible study, it is knowing that a gifting has been developed in you and you identify that gifting in someone else and walk with them and do life with them to help them develop it as well. Darwinism and "survival of the fittest" is a legit thing for soul-less animals. And, it is certainly a dominating real world mindset; however, embracing discipleship instead, releases you from the comparison-trap and allows you, and others, to experience success that goes beyond what you could ever do in your own strength. It's the key to fulfillment, to lasting self-confidence, to joy- not just happiness, to success beyond "the work", to a great legacy. It becomes bigger than you - it becomes about Jesus. Defeat comparison with disciple making. Build people up. Restore what's broken in others. Unity will be the result. Great things happen when God's people are united (in marriage, in business, in family, in ministry, in hobbies, etc.). Just for the record, I haven't done this well, or enough. God allowed this to occur to me this very day. If I get a tomorrow, hopefully, I'll honor this. I am even more grateful today, than ever, to those that have seen me, and still see me, as a disciple.
BAH! That's a lot for a Saturday, God!!
Passionate about Jesus and people, I've added this blog to communicate strategy and thoughts about Biblical Hospitality and The Church as a movement, rather than just people in a building once a week. It seems like everyone is blogging these days, (which is awesome!) and I know that there are always better and more insightful thoughts, but God is leading this so I'm just writing in obedience.
